Pro Coro Canada is a traditional choir group based in Edmonton, Alberta, and the Growlers Choir group is a heavy metal-inspired choir group based in Montreal, Quebec. Both groups demonstrate a nuanced understanding of the vitality of music and storytelling in creating connections amongst a group, and they realize this understanding through music.
In the winter of 2023, we attended a performance where these opposing groups collaborated to mend their styles in producing a brilliant choir performance. After this event, we were instructed to create two vinyl album covers to represent the marriage between these groups.
The image dominant cover features a textured painting of dark and moody red tones, accented by deep blue tones, to create an atmosphere of darkness and grit. This background helps create the context for the energy of the joined performance and represents the earthy groundedness of the Growler’s choir.
Within the textured artwork are a group of delicate white lines stretched across the design. This addition stands for the more traditional style of the Pro Coro group. Altogether, this composition features a transparent layering of the two groups and represents their connection.

The type-dominant composition displays the same texture-heavy painting with the addition of distorted text. The type comes directly from the lyrics of the DAYKING piece, and it stands as a representation of the pain and grief that the protagonist feels for himself.
